Cooking fish is not something we do often, I’m not really sure why, it’s easy to cook, it’s a fast meal and also really good for us. This Slow Cooker Tilapia couldn’t be easier, with only 4 ingredients and less than 5 minutes prep time.

It doesn’t get much easier than this my friends. This Tilapia can be made ahead, frozen and tossed into the Slow Cooker for a simple and delicious meal.  Lent is a time that Christians observe during a six week period, beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending on Easter, which this year is April 5th. During Lent, many of the faithful commit to giving up meat consumption, fasting or giving up luxuries.

Slow Cooker Tilapia

Whether you observe Lent or not, this Tilapia is not only easy to fix, it’s also really good for you. Tilapia is also one of the more budget friendly fish that you can cook. The Tilapia that I used in this recipe are individually vacuum sealed, skinless and boneless and farm raised fillets available at Walmart.

Slow Cooker Tilapia

Since we all love to have easy to make dinners, this Tilapia is perfect! The coating has just 3 ingredients – mayonnaise, fresh lemon juice and garlic. Whisk the ingredients in a small bowl and spread over the Tilapia, on both sides. Now you can do a few different things – 1. head straight to the Slow Cooker with the fish, 2. lay the fish on a tray to flash freeze it for about 1 hour then add it to a freezer safe bag or 3. layer the fish in foil packets and freeze which can then be put directly into the Slow Cooker later.

However you choose, it will make dinner time super easy.

To cook the Tilapia, you will need to either layer it in the Slow Cooker with foil between or create a foil packet. The reason for this is so the fish stays together and doesn’t flake apart. We used the layering method and used a large piece of foil bringing it up on the sides to create handles to make removing the fish from the Slow Cooker easier.

Slow Cooker Tilapia

We served the Slow Cooker Tilapia with sauteed vegetables. Doug and I have been trying to eat more vegetables and have discovered that a simple saute with asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower and mushrooms with garlic and pepper is delicious.
