Sweet Potato Fries with Marshmallow Dip

We have this ongoing fight in our house…Doug absolutely despises sweet potatoes. I think it’s pretty funny myself and was quite surprised when he suggested we make some Sweet Potato Fries for the Thanksgiving Leftover Party.

Doug really can’t even stand the smell and won’t even touch any dishes that have sweet potatoes in them. No, it’s not a phobia, he just doesn’t like them. I believe that most families are just like ours when it comes to potato preferences. We are pretty much split down the middle, Nick and I love sweet potatoes while Andrew and Doug do not and Casey of course likes both. Always up for something different we made these to give them a try.

Sweet Potato Fries

They’re easy to make, we just prepared them the same as we would have done making regular oven fries.

Preheat your oven to 425 F, while the oven is coming to temperature peel and slice the sweet potatoes into 1/2 inch fries. Place in a bowl and drizzle with oil, salt and pepper to taste then mix to coat. Place the fries on an oiled cooling rack placed in a baking sheet and cook for 20 to 30 minutes depending on how crispy you like your fries turning once half way through.

For years I have fixed canned yams with toasted marshmallows on top…oh the ooey, gooey, deliciousness…I LOVE them! So when Doug mentioned the Sweet Potato Fries, I knew we had to have some Marshmallow Dip to go with them. Take a cup of marshmallow fluff and add 1/4 cup of Hellman’s mayonnaise and a pinch of pumpkin pie spice and blend together.

Sweet Potato Fries

Being a good supportive husband, Doug did give the fries a try, but just didn’t like them. That’s okay…all the more for us!

Sweet Potato Fries With Marshmallow Dip FAQs

Why Are Sweet Potato Fries Not Crispy?

The key to getting crispy sweet potato fries is to spread them evenly in the oven so that they don’t touch one another. If you are making a lot of them, be sure to make them in batches.

Should I Soak Sweet Potato Fries Before Baking?

You can give the sweet potato fries a cold water bath. Chop the fries, toss them in a bowl, and let them soak in cold water for half an hour to ensure they crisp well in the oven.

Are Sweet Potato Fries Better For Health Than Regular Fries?

Sweet potatoes and regular potatoes have almost similar flavor profiles. Both of them can also be nutritious, depending on how you cook them. Regular potatoes have more potassium, while sweet potatoes have more vitamin A.

Can Diabetics Eat Sweet Potato Fries?

Yes, but we would recommend not serving the fries with marshmallow fluff to someone diabetic. Other than that, sweet potatoes are incredibly nutritious, with a lot of minerals and vitamins for a healthy diet.

What Dips Go Well With Sweet Potato Fries?

There are many dips that will go well apart from marshmallow dip. These include chipotle lime, sriracha, garlic mayo, paprika garlic, ketchup, sour cream, ranch, and many others. You can select any, depending on the flavor profile you like.

What Protein Goes Well With Sweet Potato Fries?

There are different types of meat you have with the sweet potato fries. These include ham, pepperoni, beef, and even chicken. Ham is the best meat to pair well, as the flavor complements the sweet taste of the potato.

Yes, you can reheat them by covering a baking dish with foil. After that, add the ingredients and reheat the fries and dip them at 350 degrees for half an hour or until the fries are warm enough.

What Toppings Can I Add To My Sweet Potato Fries?

You don’t have to add marshmallow dip if you don’t like it. Instead, you can add other toppings such as brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, maple syrup, toasted pecans, sour cream, walnuts, honey, and much more. You can choose between savory or sweet toppings, depending on your preferences.

The time it takes depends on the temperature. Here is what you must know:

  • 400 degrees Fahrenheit: 45 minutes to an hour
  • 350 degrees Fahrenheit: An hour to an hour and fifteen minutes
  • 325 degrees Fahrenheit: One and one and a half-hour

You can also do the knife test to check the potatoes.
