Description

Make dinner time easier with this classic Sloppy Joe sandwich. Recipe from PocketChangeGourmet.com. Adapted from Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms Cookbook


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 2 celery ribs, finely diced
  • 2/3 cup onion, finely diced
  • 2/3 cup green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup Barbecue Sauce (Bull’s Eye or your favorite)
  • 16 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • Hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, celery, onion and green pepper, until beef is cooked through.
  2. Drain the fat.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients, except hamburger buns (of course).
  4. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a bowl to cool.
  6. Cover and refrigerate until ready to reheat or freeze in labeled freezer bags, freeze flat.

Cooking Directions

  1. Reheat in microwave or on the stove top
  2. Serve on buns

Notes

You can cook the Sloppy Joes on the stove top, or cook the hamburger mixture and add the remaining ingredients to the Crockpot.
