Ingredients

Waffles

  • 1 3/4 cups flour, all-purpose
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, separated
  • 2 cups buttermilk or 1 cup milk + 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup oil, canola or vegetable

Apples

  • 24 apples, your favorite variety {depending on how many you are serving}
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of allspice
  • Drizzle of maple syrup
  • Whipped Topping and cinnamon for garnish

Instructions

Apples

  1. Add butter to a small saute pan and melt
  2. Peel apples, slice thinly and add to pan
  3. Sprinkle with cinnamon and allspice
  4. Stir and cook about 5 minutes until apples begin to soften
  5. Drizzle with syrup and continue to cook until soft

Waffles

  1. In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients
  2. Separate eggs, whites into a small bowl and yolks into the dry ingredients
  3. Add buttermilk and oil to dry ingredients
  4. With an electric mixer, beat the egg whites until foamy and white, fold into waffle mixture
  5. Heat waffle maker, spray with non-stick cooking spray if necessary
  6. Add about 1/2 cup waffle batter for each waffle
  7. Serve warm with apples, whipped topping and a sprinkle of cinnamon
