Shaved Beef and Broccoli makes a deliciously quick and easy weeknight meal. Ginger, garlic, broccoli and peppers are stir-fried with tender shaved beef in a Tamari BBQ sauce. Layers of savory flavor!

Start the rice first because the stir-fry takes so little time!

How to Make Shaved Beef and Broccoli

**Cook the rice according to package directions. If you want to make it into coconut rice, substitute one cup of coconut milk for one of the cups of water. For cilantro rice, chop fresh cilantro and mix it into the finished rice.

  1. While the rice cooks, cut the vegetables and set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat and sauté the carrots, garlic, and ginger for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Then add the shaved beef and cook for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally to separate the pieces, until the beef is cooked through.
  4. Drizzle the sauce (tamari, rice vinegar, BBQ sauce) over the meat and add the peppers and broccoli florets to the pot.
  5. Allow the dish to steam for about 5-7 minutes, then toss together before serving.
  6. Garnish with dried red chili flakes or fresh cilantro if desired.

Shaved Beef & Broccoli Variations:

This recipe can be a base for many different variations. You can sub vegetables, proteins, and modify the spices to suit your taste or try new flavor combinations. Here are a few that have become staples in our house:

  • Use baby bok choy, kale, Brussels sprouts, or green beans in place of the broccoli.
  • Use shaved pork, chicken, or sliced tofu in place of the beef.

Where to buy shaved beef?

Shaved meats are widely available in Asian markets, but often large supermarket chains will offer them, too. I recently was pleased to find shaved beef in Trader Joe’s.
