The holidays are quickly approaching and whether you’re hosting or simply attending some sort of party or potluck during the holidays, inevitably we all will go through the dilemma of what to serve or bring to the party.
Because I can’t be the only person who’s mind goes blank at the thought of what to serve guests as an appetizer for a party or a potluck. Every time I’m tasked with making or bringing a dish to share I’ll start a new search, suddenly none of my ideas are good enough, I can’t remember what I made the last time that people liked, etc. Want to know what is good enough? A Fruit and Cheese Tree Holiday Appetizer.
The holidays are all about family, food and parties. For many, many years I stressed out about how perfect my house was, and what I would serve guests. Over the years though, I have grown to love the simple things that can be done when hosting a party. The fruit and cheese tree is the perfect example. It looks impressive, but it’s really very simple and only takes minutes to put together.
Fruit and cheese platters work great for parties! Mixing and mingling with guests while snagging a snack as you pass by the holiday appetizer. Talk about which bites you like best, and be the hostess with the mostess while you refill everyone’s wine glasses in between tastes.
Fruit and Cheese Christmas Tree
- Cheese – any kind you like is fine – we used Extra Sharp Cheddar, Colby Jack, Swiss and Pepper Jack
- Grapes – green and red
- Yellow Pepper
- Celery
- Curly Parsley, optional
To assemble the Fruit and Cheese Christmas Tree, we cut the cheese into small cubes first. Then washed the grapes, we left a few in bunches on the stem, and removed some. Then we started in the center with a row of Colby Jack cheese and worked my way out from there. For the topper, we cut the end off the yellow pepper and added a piece of celery to the bottom for the trunk. After it was all together, a few small pieces of parsley were added to give it a little softness.
