Shh…don’t tell them these burgers have veggies in them, they will never know! These Four Cheddar Garden Burgers are packed with flavor, add more cheese, bacon and tomatoes to the top and you have a burger that is out of this world good!
I don’t know about you but getting our boys to eat more veggies is really difficult. We often add them to our regular dishes, but they have become pretty smart about it and can spot something green a mile away. Cheese on the other hand, is something they absolutely love.
If you ever have watched The Food Network, you are probably familiar with the show, Chopped. The participants are given a basket filled with several ingredients and they have to come up with a dish. Well, I consider myself a fairly good home cook, so when Sargento asked us to come up with a recipe using Sargento® Chef Blends 4 State Cheddar, Kale, Bacon, and Oyster Crackers, I thought it would be fun.
Sargento is hosting the Chopped at Home Challenge where you could win $10,000 for your recipe! How fun is that?
We have not cooked much with kale, but after recently learning from my Doctor that I needed more greens in my diet, we were definitely up for the challenge.
We added 1 cup each of kale, oyster crackers, Sargento® Chef Blends 4 State Cheddar and a 1/2 cup of onion to the food processor.
After the mixture was well blended, we mixed it with ground beef. At this point, we actually thought about making the mixture into a meatloaf, but thought the boys would eat the burgers better.
So we formed the meat mixture into burgers. Doug likes his burgers pretty hardy, nice and thick. The best tip for making juicy hamburgers is to handle the meat as little as possible. And be sure to make an indentation in the center of your burger so it cooks evenly.
After the burgers were done, we topped them with more Sargento® Chef Blends 4 State Cheddar, sliced tomatoes – yellow and red, and bacon. And served them on a ciabatta bun.
Our oldest son, who never touches anything green, ate it and loved it!
