Asian Braised Beef
Description
Savory beef stew simmered with Asian inspired flavors like garlic, ginger, Tamari, and sesame for a delicious, hearty, and warming stew.
Ingredients
1 Tablespoon toasted sesame oil
3 lbs beef stew meat
3 cloves garlic, minced
1” fresh ginger, grated
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon dried chili flakes
1 medium onion, chopped or sliced
2 large carrots, chopped into ½” slices
¼ cup Tamari (similar to soy sauce but gluten free)
1 ½ cups water + 1 Tablespoon Better than Bouillon
¼ cup rice vinegar
¼ cup Japanese BBQ sauce
3 scallions, sliced
Instructions
- Season the meat with salt and pepper.
- Heat the oil in the Instant Pot on the saute setting.
- Cook the onions and carrots for about 5 minutes until golden.
- Then add the ginger and garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Next brown the meat on all sides.
- Add the broth (water + bouillon), Tamari, vinegar, BBQ sauce, and chili flakes.
- Place the lid on the Instant pot and slow cook for 4 hours.
- When the pressure releases, stir the stew and pressure cook it for 1 hour more.
- Garnish with scallions, cilantro, and basil, if desired.
Notes
*If you do not need to avoid gluten, you can use traditional soy sauce in place of the Tamari.
**You can also use beef broth in place of the water and bouillon.
***You can also use traditional BBQ sauce in place of the Japanese BBQ sauce.
