We have a little confession…this is our third, maybe fourth attempt at applesauce.  And when I say we…I mean both Doug and I messed up the applesauce! A couple years ago, I successfully made a really good applesauce, but somehow when life is busy and I try to multi-task too many things, I forget about the applesauce in the slow cooker.

I’m also a big fan of Apple Butter, so when I spotted this recipe for Stovetop Apple Butter, I knew  hoped it would be a recipe that I would not mess up. And…sure enough, I was right! It turned out perfect, even after getting a little side tracked on Pinterest. Do you have that problem too?

Along with the wonderful flavors of cinnamon and allspice, this Apple Butter was done in less than an hour! So in case you are in a hurry, or like me and forget about the apples in the slow cooker…this recipe is for you!

The addition of apple cider really gave the butter a rich, deep flavor. You can leave the Apple Butter chunky or put it in the food processor, like we did to make it a little smoother. Add the Apple Butter to a cute jar, throw in a loaf of bread and you have a great gift as well!

    • Hi Mari, the recipe for Apple Butter makes about 1 1/2 cups, it can easily be doubled. You will need to increase the amount of cooking time to 35-40 minutes.
      Thanks for stopping by!

      • I wound up just chopping up 3 large apples (golden delicious, fuji, and Granny Smith) and throwing them in a pot over medium heat, which I then filled about half way with apple juice… then when I got impatient, I dumped it all in a blender, realized I’d put in way too much apple juice, poured all the juice I could get out out, and blended the apples… then I put them back into the pot, added seasoning, and tried to will them into apple butter (over medium heat)… but it’s much closer to apple sauce. And when the blender fell apart as I was considering reblending it to get it smoother, it became apple sauce all over the floor and counter. i managed to capture some though, and it’s not bad tasting. When I run out of it, I’ll try again with actually following a recipe…

          • Just made it and I’m still get more of a vinegar taste to the apple butter-any suggestions on how to fix this??

          • Hmm, not sure about that Natalie, the recipe doesn’t call for vinegar, so I’m not sure why it would have that taste. Maybe you could add some more spices.
