With the big game just around the corner, it’s time to take inventory of the cupboards and fridge and start making those lists. Whether you are planning on hosting a party or going to a friend’s house, these delicious and hearty Italian Meatball Subs are the perfect menu item to feed any appetite.

The truth is these delicious Italian Meatball Subs couldn’t be any simpler. All you will need are meatballs, pizza sauce, sub buns, veggies, and cheese. You can either make your own meatballs and this quick pizza sauce or you can purchase store bought ones. In fact, all of these items can be purchased at your local Walmart for a very reasonable price. The meatballs come frozen in a variety of style – Italian (like we used, Turkey or regular. The one thing to note is to make sure they are completely thawed out first, before preparing these subs. If you do choose to make the meatballs and the sauce, you can prep them ahead of time which will make these just as easy to assemble right before the game.

Meatball-Sub-ingredients

After your meatballs are either made or thawed, put them in a pan with the sauce to heat up together and combine the delicious flavors. Yum…is your mouth watering yet?

Meatballs

Then in a separate pan, using a little olive oil or butter, sauté the onions and peppers for a few minutes, until they are soft and the onions are translucent. Just look at all of that color! And nothing smells more amazing (in my opinion) than onions and peppers cooking together.

Vegetables

While the meatballs are warming and the veggies are sautéing, put the buns open face with the cheese on one side in the preheated oven to toast for a few minutes. Once these are toasted and the cheese is melted…You are ready to assemble this deliciousness. If you can manage to get these on a plate without eating them all first you can start layering the meatballs on top of the cheesy, toasted bread, and then the warm, sautéed veggies on top of that, then close the lid.

These Italian Meatball Subs are a little warm slice of heaven. And may I suggest on having quite a few napkins on hand. Your game day crowd is going to LOVE these Italian Meatball Subs and will definitely be requesting them again in the future.
