Homemade Taco Seasoning

We love Mexican dishes in our house, in fact we add them to the menu at least once per week. Our family enjoys the flavor of Mexican food and we enjoy that it’s budget friendly as well. Making your own seasonings is really easy and less expensive then buying them already made. But what I like best is that you can customize them to suit your taste. This Homemade Taco Seasoning is perfect for Tacos, Salads, Soup and more!

Some of my favorite cookbooks are those from the 1960’s and 70’s. I guess I’m just nostalgic like that. One of my favorites is the Homemade Mixes; Make-A-Mix Cookery. I love reading through older cookbooks that other people have used and I especially value the ones’ that have personal notes alongside the recipes.

We have tweaked the original recipe a bit to suit our taste. However we kept the cornstarch, many Taco Seasoning recipes don’t call for it, and while you can certainly leave it out, we like it because it adds a bit of thickening to the taco mixture.

There are several advantages to making your own seasoning blends, of course it is frugal and if you need more to finish a recipe you won’t need to make a special trip to the store. But in our family the greatest benefit is we can tweak the recipe to change the flavor to our liking or simply add more or less depending on how adventurous we are feeling.

  3. I’ll have to try this. I’ve made other taco seasoning mixes and they tasted more like chili seasoning but this looks like it has the right balance of ingredients.

This sounds good. I try to formulate my own house seasonings to satify my personal taste.
