These Homemade Slushies are a perfect afternoon treat by the pool, during Game Night and they make a fun and easy weeknight treat. The flavor options are endless, and the addition of Ice Cream makes them even better. They go together in minutes and cost about $1 for the whole pitcher full. So let me show you how to make Homemade Slushies!

We all love to go to our local Ice Cream Shop, but let’s face it, it can be expensive for our whole family to go. We can easily spend close to $20. So many years ago, I began looking for fun ways to make treats at home. These Homemade Slushies have been a favorite with the boys for years.

To celebrate the upcoming 4th of July holiday, we chose red and blue Slushies, but of course, any flavor you like works just fine. Whether you are enjoying a parade, or watching fireworks, these Homemade Slushies are a must make.

All you need is Ice, Ice Water, Sugar, Kool-Aid and Ice Cream. We used our Oster Versa Blender to mix the Slushies. This blender chops the ice really well and makes a smooth Slushie.

  1. Hi Sweetie,

I have a question about the Kool-Ade packets. Do you mean the regular no sugar packets or the little packets that you pour into the 16.9 ounce bottles of water? They have the added sugar. My 8 year old son had his first slushie recently and fell in love with the cold treat. Can you believe I got away with a non- slushie loving kid for so long? He is very understanding when I say I can’t afford something. I am very fortunate to have a child like him. I would love to make them for him at home. Have a wonderful day!

    • Hi Lenore, yes they are the regular Kool-Aid packets without sugar, the ones I bought at Walmart were .20 cents in the drink aisle. You can also make these without ice cream, and use only 1 packet.
I bet your son will love them!

  2. Slushies and Ice Cream- sounds like the perfect combination to me! I’ve never tried making slushies so I cannot wait to make these for me and my friends. Also, the jello parfaits looks really good too! Everything just looks so yummy~

  3. My boys and I just tried these with orange kool-aid packets. It was delish! I used 4 cups of crushed ice and had to add more water for blending. Next time, I will be sure to use ice cubes instead. LOL

    • So excited you like the slushies! They are always a hit here too!
      Have fun!
      ~Liz

  6. This is exciting. I love making and eating slushies with the kids of my friends and relatives. But, they are slushies without ice cream. I’m looking forward to our next “slushy” bonding so we can try the ones with ice cream!

  7. This totally caught my eye as a great summer treat for kids! Thanks for linking up at Welcome Home Wednesdays, can’t wait to see what you have for us this week!

  8. What can I use instead of cool aid packets as I am in the U.K. where they don’t sell it

  9. I’ll definately add a Comment once I have made these. They lookg great and so do several other pics you have on here. I’ll be back with comment on hand soon, Thanks! ~Brent B~

  10. I have a question about an ingredient. The very 1st one it says /cups of ice water(1 1/2 cups cold water) so what does that mean. My theory is that you put 1 1/2 cups of cold water and then fill it up with ice to make 2 cups. Do you still get the kool aid packs with the no sugar or with sugar. Can you add chocolate ice cream and follow the same steps.
