We finish up our week with these delicious Fried Tortellini! They are perfect for a quick weeknight meal, snack for Family Movie Night and of course, great for your Tailgating Party.

After checking out some of the fabulous recipes from Matt Armendariz’s book On A Stick I couldn’t wait to try frying up some pasta, he does both Raviolli and Spaghetti and meatballs. I love both but I’ve had a hankerin’ for tortellini lately so what better excuse to do some more experimenting in the kitchen.

Most Italian meals are very frugal meals, this one is no exception. Making your own marinara sauce and breading mixture helps control the costs and you can pick up a bag of tortellini in the frozen food section of your grocery for under $5.00. All told this meal should cost you under $8.00.

Don’t let the list of ingredients scare you, they go together quickly and most well stocked pantries will have all the ingredients needed to complete the recipe.

Holland House Marsala Cooking Wine adds a great flavor to the Marinara Sauce and is available just about everywhere. Keep in mind that Holland House does add salt to their cooking wine so make sure to taste your sauce before you add any additional salt.

  1. Really looks yummy! I am adding these to my Christmas Eve app party menu but how many servings does this make? And what size bag of tortellini goes with the above ingredients. Thank you!! Tara

    • Tara, the tortellini we purchase comes in a 16 ounce bag and we get about 10 servings out of it.

  2. Hey there I just wanted to tell you this was a bit hit last year at my Christmas Eve party. My kids especially loved it. Making it again this year.

  3. Do you cook the tortellini before you bread it or just leave it raw?

    • No need to cook first, just bread and cook. Thanks for stopping by Laura!
