Although I love the Summer months, I by far love this time of year for baking and cooking. The warmth of a comforting bowl of soup, a big pan of Lasagna and of course, all the recipes with apples and pumpkins are top on my list.

Today we are  sharing one of the most amazing recipes. Truly my friends, you need to run (or jump in your car) and go as fast as you can to the Apple Orchard or grocery store and grab yourself some apples and apple juice. Because this Fried Apples Recipe tastes exactly like the ones you get at Cracker Barrel Restaurant.

Growing up my Mom always made Fried Apples, but the ones she made were actually fried in butter and brown sugar. And although they were delicious, I’m sure they weren’t the best for us. Not having another recipe to use, I duplicated the way she served them for many, many years.

I used golden delicious apples in this recipe, but I think you could certainly use your favorite apple. Check out our Guide to Apples and their uses.

After trying this recipe, there is no going back to my Mom’s recipe for fried apples. And re-creating the Fried Apple Recipe that Cracker Barrel Restaurant serves, that is definitely a win-win for me!

I changed the original recipe a bit, and also made them in our cast iron skillet. They will work just fine in a regular skillet too. The amount of Apple Pie Spice is perfect, not too overwhelming.

We served these Fried Apples as a side dish, but I’m also looking forward to a bowl of ice cream tonight with the apples piled high and a drizzle of caramel sauce. I’m a sucker for caramel and apples together, are you?

  1. love “fried” apples….but the calories…I use water instead of apple juice….simmer till water is gone…heavy sprinkle of cinnamon and a tablespoon or two of brown sugar…a bit more water and stir and simmer 5 minutes…had these tonight along with cinnamon french toast and oven baked bacon….very tasty!!!

  2. I don’t have enough Apple juice, can i use Apple Cider instead?

    • Hi Sanaz, Yes it is fine to use apple cider, I’ve had the same situation before and used cider and they tasted the same.

  3. I’ve just found your site after searching for a recipe for chicken quarters. I’ve been shunning a bag of Golden Delicious apples on the counter and I’m going to try perking them up with this recipe so I don’t end up tossing them out! I’m going to try cranberry juice as I don’t have an apple juice on hand. Sounds sweet-tart and yummy! Thanks for the idea!

  6. This apple recipe reminds me of long ago. When i lived in Pittsburgh, PA we had a Kaufman’s department store and once a month we would go into town and shop and have lunch with my in-laws. One of the things I really loved were their fried apples. I looked forward to them. I am sure they were not the healthiest either, but so good. Thanks for the updated version.

  7. We had Cracker Barrel apples this morning, perfect topping for french toast. Thanks for sharing your yummy recipe with us at Merry Monday. Pinned for later.

  8. Thanks for the recipe. If I didn’t want to make a bunch of Apple spice what would the measurements be for this recipe?

    • Hi Stacy, you can purchase apple pie spice already made, or the ingredients are cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and ground ginger. I don’t know how much of each ingredient you would need, the largest ingredient is cinnamon, so perhaps start with that and add a little of the other ingredients in. I have also made the fried apples with just cinnamon and nutmeg.
      Happy Cooking!
