Perfect for a special holiday breakfast, yet easy enough for a weekday! This French Toast Egg-in-a-hole will have your family asking for more!

My Recipe Experience

I found the inspiration for this recipe at It’s Yummy to My Tummy. And as we do here added a little flair to her Toad in a Hole recipe and came up with this French Toast Egg-in-a-hole.

I’ve been wanting to make an egg-in-a-hole for breakfast for a long time. But, I just wasn’t enthused enough with the whole concept. Not until I suggested that instead of plain toast, we try a French Toast version. She added a little flair and suggested using a little Vanilla Caramel Creme Coffee Creamer in place of the milk we normally use. What a difference it made!

After a few trials runs to figure out the best process and combinations I declare this recipe is awesome. Once I got the process down it was a snap to make, any cookie cutter shape works well, a simple circle or an animal shape for the kids or you could surprise your Valentine and start the day with a sweet breakfast with a heart shape. All that’s needed is a little imagination.

Final Thoughts

When I started making this, my family started loving to have this from time to time. I was able to share this with my friends as well. They loved it! It is a wonderful meal to have for breakfast and even snacks. I have been making this for quite some time now. It has become an appetizing treat. This is very easy to make and prepare. With its ingredients readily available anytime, it makes it more convenient. Make sure to give it a try! I’m sure you will keep making this too once you tried it. Tell me what you think about this recipe afterward.

  1. *facepalm* Cookie cutter. Duh!

THAT’S what I should be using instead of meticulously trying to cut each slice of bread with a knife.

My next round of eggs in a frame will be far, far quicker!

    Thanks for sharing.

  3. What a cute idea using a heart cookie cutter to make this. Great pick for SRC – like the French toast idea for this kid friendly breakfast idea.

  7. I love Eggs in a Hole. You’ve just upped them to the next level! I love the idea of making it into french toast, and using coffee creamer? Genius! Thanks!

  8. Oh my! Oh my! What a brilliant idea!!! TWO of my most favorite breakfast foods in ONE…just brilliant! I know what we are having for DINNER tonight! Many thanks for such a great creation!

I loved finding your blog as I too am from the SRC – I am in group D. 🙂

  9. We call this “toad in a hole” but not sure why. My MIL calls it “s–t on a shingle”–lol! But this French toast version is the bomb–can’t believe I never thought of it. Love that it uses creamer instead of milk, too-brilliant!

  10. Under ingredients the recipe should call for 2 eggs, not one. When I open the refrigerator to prepare the dish, I want to take out as many eggs as I need beforehand.
(I only make one at a time, its very filling) 🙂

    • The ingredient list is broken down, 1 list for the french toast batter and 1 list for the eggs in a hole – that way in case you don’t want to put the egg inside you can just make the french toast

  11. Should I use the cookie cutter on the bread before dunking? Or while on the griddle? Thx!!!! My family will love this

    • Hi Brandi, I cut it out first because it was less messy, however either way will work.
      Happy Cooking!
