Chex Party Mix has been a LONG time favorite in Doug’s family. My Mother-in-law, Marge, was very well known for her Party Mix and used to make 5-gallon containers full at Christmas time. Even though nothing measures up to her party mix, I do use her original recipe and it’s always a hit!

I dressed up these little red take-out boxes with simple embellishments, filled with Chex Party Mix for fun gifts from the kitchen! Enjoy the essence of the generosity that Christmas brings through giving these treats.

Christmas Take Out Boxes Supplies

art materials for making the boxes
  • Boxes – available at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, etc.
  • Ribbon – I found this ribbon in the $.97 cents section at Walmart
  • Tags – also $.97 cents and found at Walmart
  • Black and Gold paper for Santa’s buckle
  • Buttons or any other little embellishment you have around the house
  • Twine to tie the tags on with
  • Glue – I like to use Elmer’s tape runner or glue dots {super easy}
  • Scissors

Use your creativity to decorate the boxes. Make sure to make it as attractive and presentable as you can. It will be more interesting that way.

For the Santa boxes, cut a strip of black card stock. 1 1/2 inches wide, a square of black 1 1/2 inches, and a square of gold scrapbook paper 2 1/2 inches. Glue the strip onto the box, and add the buckle. Try and place the black square to match where the strip is. Then, it looks like the belly of Old St. Nick.

For the Snowman, use glue dots to apply buttons, small pieces of black paper for his hat, and a little ribbon for the scarf.

For the tree, use ribbon cut into different lengths, black paper for the trunk, and a yellow button on top for the star.

    • Hi Joan, no I have never frozen Chex Mix. I would you could, although I’m not sure if it would get soggy after it dethaws. It does keep for 2-3 weeks in airtight containers though.
