After a recent trip to Bob Evans for a Sunday morning Breakfast, we were inspired to recreate their Breakfast Biscuit Bowl. Cooking all the ingredients ahead, will also make these a great, quick breakfast for those school mornings that are quickly approaching.

Offering a variety of ingredients to put in your Biscuit Bowl, not only makes them tasty but fun for the kiddos. Just cook everything ahead of time, heat it up and create an assembly line. Even as young as 2 years old can pick, choose and toss the ingredients into the bowls.

The bowls are made from a tube of large buttermilk biscuits, you could certainly make your own biscuits too.

Remove each biscuit, and gently roll them out using your hands or a rolling pin. Spray the bottom of a muffin tin, I used a large muffin tin, but a regular size would work just as well. Mold each of the biscuits over the muffin tin, pulling down the edges carefully.

Bake at 350 for about 10 – 12 minutes, or until golden brown, watching so they don’t burn.

We like our Breakfast Biscuit Bowl with everything! Fried Potatoes, Sausage, Bacon, Eggs, and Cheese, all smothered in Gravy. But you can add anything your family likes, perhaps next time we’ll try adding some green peppers and onions to the bowls. I can already tell these are going to be a staple of our breakfast menu.

Let’s talk gravy…personally I struggle with making a good gravy. It’s not really hard, and I suppose the more you fix it, the easier it becomes, however I do think there is a little trick to it. To make my life a little easier, I bought a packet of gravy mix, and it was super easy. In fact, Doug made the gravy you see in the picture. I think I should give him the gravy making job from now on!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tube large Buttermilk Biscuits
  • Scrambled Eggs {usually 1 egg per person, mixed with 1 tablespoon milk}
  • Southern Fried Hashbrowns {bag of frozen or cut potatoes in small square pieces}
  • Bacon {cook in the oven on a wire rack}
  • Sausage {fry on stovetop and use drippings to cook gravy}
  • Shredded Cheese
  • Sausage Gravy {you can find a gravy packet with flour and seasonings in the grocery store near the other dry mixes}

Instructions

  1. Cover a cookie sheet with foil, place a wire cooling rack on top. Cook bacon in oven at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes or until crispy. Place on paper towel to drain.
  2. Place biscuits on bottom of muffin tin and bake at 350 degrees for about 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. Fry frozen potatoes in small amount of oil on stovetop, according to directions on package. You can also cut potatoes in small squares.
  4. Cook sausage on stovetop until brown.
  5. Cook gravy in sausage drippings. Use a gravy packet if you are gravy challenged like me or make your own.
  6. Crack eggs {1 per person} in a bowl and add 1 tablespoon milk per egg. Whisk together. Cook.

Let’s talk…Are you a gravy snob or a gravy wanna be, like me? Do you fix breakfast everyday or only on the weekends?

  1. I agree, totally love this idea!! I have 3 kids (Jr high, High school and College) plus myself to get out of the house for work!! These would be easy to make ahead and just heat up the fixings and do the bicuits in the am and they are ready!!

    Thank you!!

  2. Oh man this looks soooo good! I am definitely bookmarking this one 🙂

    Visiting from Home & Family Friday!

    • My youngest is having friends sleep over tonight and requested them for breakfast in the morning. Did you add sausage and bacon? And other ingredients?
      Now I’m hungry 🙂

  3. have you ever tried to do this as a freezer meal? if so, how did it work out?

    • Hi Kari, we haven’t put the bowls together and froze them, but have frozen the ingredients separate. Then just add cheese when you heat them up.
